Friday Feeling, Lists

Friday Feeling!

OOH HELLO! It’s been a while since we’ve done one of these, hasn’t it!? Well so much is going on that I just thought it would be lovely to share some good things from over the last couple of weeks! Here’s what’s been making the last fortnight a wonderful sunny place to live!

  • New Website
I have a SPANGLY NEW WEBSITE! WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO! It’s for all my professional writing, teaching and performing work and I’m super happy with how it looks! I hope people like it! And then I hope people hire me to do stuff. COME ON KEEP THE WORK COMING UNIVERSE!
  • A Visit up North
I have about ONE BAZILLION things going on at the moment (the joy of freelancing!) which is GREAT because it’s great to be busy, and you know, paid, but it does mean that my brain felt like it was about to explode at one point. Sometimes, a change of scenery is so necessary, plus I personally LOVE sitting on long train journeys, they feel like a little bubble. So I jaunted off to THE NORTH to visit my dear chums Catherine and James who live just outside Halifax. Whilst they were at work I pottered around their gorgeous house which is in the middle of BLOOMING NOWHERE marvelling at the misty view, picking home-grown raspberries, working in their study and making friends with the cows. In the evening we headed off to Leeds to grab dinner, sink a few pints and watch The Staves perform at a gig. WONDER.

  • Cabaret Rehearsals
MY ONE WOMAN SHOW IS NEXT BLOODY WEEK! IT’S IN A MINUTE! WAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH nah it’s cool, I feel very calm and collected about it. LOL JK I AM EXCITED AS FUCK SLASH TERRIFIED! But I have been rehearsing super hard with my MD Joe, and they are always a dream. We started a tradition where we share a bottle of pink fizz at every rehearsal. It’s an excellent tradition if you ask me. There’s still a few tickets left for the show on Wednesday 11th, so visit HERE to snaffle those last few tickets! It’s gonna be a ball!Katie_Square_New-01
  • Unicorn Onesie
I went shopping to buy an outfit to wear for my show. I did not buy an outfit for my show. I did buy a unicorn onesie. #NoRegrets

  • Drinks with Old Work Chums
Last Friday I met up with three of my best gal pals who I used to work my temp job with and we went drinkig and dancing and had ALL THE GIGGLES AND GUFFAWS. They were the best thing about a super boring job, and never fail to make me cry with laughter. And they’re organising a road trip  to come and watch me do panto. WHAT HEROES!
  • The Winter’s Tale
We went along to The Garrick Theatre last weekend to see The Winter’s Tale which is garnering loads of attention thanks to Kenneth Branagh and Judi Dench in the cast. Whilst we actually weren’t huge fans of the production, it was nonetheless a thrill to see two powerhouses up on stage. HINT: Don’t sit in the back section of the stalls. You can barely hear a thing!

  • Gin-Tasting with The King of Soho
I kicked off the week with an evening at Soho Italian eaterie Mele e Pere to try out a whole host of cocktails made with The King of Soho Gin. It was delicious. And giddy. Full post to follow!

  • The Old Crown
On Wednesday, I met my pal Madi and we headed over to The Old Crown on New Oxford Street for a few beers and to sample their new Christmas Menu! We had  hearty parsnip and apple soup with gingerbread crumbs sprinkled on top, creamy mushroom gnocci, a stand-out beef cheek casserole and for pudding an INSANELY good salted caramel brownie. I kind of wish I had an office to organise a Christmas Lunch for because I would go HERE. Also this place is open until 3am on weekends! WHO KNEW?!
  • 84 Charing Cross Road
Our Book Club book of the month is 84 Charing Cross Road by Helene Hanff. It’s a series of letters between Hanff, a ballsy, bossy American writer and the staff at an antique bookshop on the Charing Cross Road who would send her obscure and out of print books that she couldn’t find in New York. It resulted in over a decade of friendship and correspondence, with gifts being exchanged over the Atlantic as well as book purchasing. It is UTTERLY CHARMING and VERY FUNNY. Before I met Madi, I found a spot in Foyles Cafe for an hour with a glass of Bethnal Green Pale Ale and laughed my socks off. One of my favouritest things I have read in ages.

  • Marie Antoinette Rehearsals
Next Saturday I’m playing Marie Antoinette at Truc Vert, a gorgeous French restaurant in Mayfair for a special dinner-theatre evening they’re hosting! We’re playing out scenes from her life whilst punters tuck into specially themed cocktails and stunning French GRUB! Tickets are £20, and available here if you fancy it!

  • A Card from Oz
My best mate moved to Melbourne for a YEAR (it’s fine I don’t miss her at all. WEEEEEEEEEP SOB CRY) in September, and this week an exceptional card arrived for me from the other side of the world, carrying her good luck wishes for next week all tied up in a gorgeous Harry Potter themed package. She knows me. Snail Mail for DA WIN.

ONE LAST THING! Next Sunday, I’m performing in this SICKKKKK concert in Covent Garden! It’s called Giggin’ 4 Good and the line-up is absolutely INSANE, full of the finest performers theatreland has to offer (and er…me). All proceeds go to Great Ormond Street, a cause close to my heart (no seriously, my actual literal heart. I have a dodgy ticker and they looked after me there all through my childhood, and performed heart surgery on me when I was 18. They’re BRILLIANT.) so if you’re free, COME! Tickets available here!
